RL Single Stripe Beanie
About the hat:
I made this hat for my brother, Rich, for Christmas this year. This was the first "fitted" beanie I tried to make. It took me about 2 days to complete.
Materials I used:
- US size 8 circular needles (16'')
- Lion Brand Yarn: Vanna's Choice (color: navy)
- Red Heart Super Saver Yarn (color: white)
RL Single Stripe Scarf Pattern: Cast on 80 stitches using US size 8 circular needles
Using the navy color yarn: *K2, P2* for each round until the work measures ~2 inches
Switch to the white color yarn: *K2, P2* for 3 rows
Switch back to the navy color yarn: *K2, P2* for each round until the work measures ~6 inches
Start decreasing: row 1: *K2, P2tog*
row 2-6: *K2, P1*
row 7: *K2tog, P1*
row 8-12: *K1, P1*
To finish: Cut yarn leaving a 6 inch tail.
Thread yarn through (you may want to use a tapestry needle).
Pull yarn through all stitches in the last round.
Take out the circular needle.
Pull tight.
Secure the yarn on the inside of the hat.
Weave in ends.
Abbreviations used in this pattern: K2= knit two
P2= purl two
K2tog= knit two stitches together
P2tog= purl two stitches together
HI! I finished this hat and it looks fabulous! I made it for one of my family members and they have a REALLY big head. I used size 10 needles and used 104 st. Its enormous, but really comfy. I made the stripe higher up but made the hat around 10 inches long. This way I can roll the brim and still see the stripe. I used high grade wool yarn and this suited me better than Vanna's Choice. I love your pattern. THANKS!
ReplyDelete@babykar9 amazing! i'd love to see a photo! please e-mail me if you have the chance :) lisaxlin@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteHow do you make the entire thing on the circular needles? Doesn't it get hard when there are very few stitches to work with at the end or how does that work?
ReplyDelete@Laura I make it work toward the end, yes it is very difficult, but I position the needles/circular needle wire to get it done. You can switch to double pointed needles to make things easier
ReplyDeleteI think I used a slightly different sizes for needle/yarn, and I didn't do the stripe, but I used this pattern and it came out really well! Thanks for the pattern!!

Do you have a beginner pattern for 13 inch needles and thick and quick yarn for this absolute beginner. Have knitted only on straight needles wanting to try circular knitting! Thanks Ginger!
ReplyDeleteBy the way the only thing I have made is a wash cloth so flat piece is all I have made so far! Would love to make a hat and work up from there! So other than k and p and of course Ihave practiced and made k2tog and p2tog stitches and co and bind off of course. but increasing I haven't done yet and not really any decreasing but have practiced it a little on practice pieces and then pulled them out cause it was just practice but haven't had time to do any more projects. And been letting my wrists have a rest because they do start acting up when I do any knitting and crocheting! Thanks!
